Part 1 – Introduction
We have all seen, and typically joined in on, the political parties stances on what the governments policies should be. These policies are designed to be black and white extremes that rely on government attempts to help certain groups of people, at the expense of other people. There are three big problems with the parties approach.
The first is that it defines the policies in terms of all or nothing, dividing us into two never to meet groups that can only hate each other. We have all been oh too aware of the divisive bickering that has made every aspect of life less enjoyable, if not down right unbearable. We can’t even come together to fight the current pandemic. We do not need more divisiveness.
The second is that the parties want to grow government to fix the issues that they see are important. I don’t know about you, but I have rarely known attempts by the government to fix things that didn’t end up making things worse for everyone. We need to minimize government, not make it bigger.
The third problem is that the parties put the needs of one group ahead at the expense of the other group. This rarely if ever actually works as intended. Tax the rich to give to the poor? That will typically end up hurting the poor even more than the rich. Give advantages to the rich at the expense of the poor? That will end up hurting the rich. We need to work toward the best for all to get the best economic growth that will make all of us better off.
These three problems join together to form another problem. I call it the simple answer syndrome. Instead of carefully analyzing a situation and trying to find the solution that best works for all people, we get simple answers that look good and are easy to sell to the parties audience. These simple answers just are not thought through, and do not end up helping solve the problems they are designed to fix.
This series will take on a lot of current hot political topics. I will try to find the middle of the ground on these topics. While you may not agree 100% with where I draw the middle ground, I hope that we can at least introduce the fact that there is a middle ground. Hopefully we can have a discussion to work towards a better middle ground solution. Comments are turned on. Your initial comments will need to be approved before they are seen on the site. That is to try to keep comments constructive and on-topic. First topic up will be Gun control.
